Clinic & Pharmacy
What began as a community-led vision in Angostura is now a fully recognized health clinic serving local families. Partnering with community leaders, ondawave helped complete the clinic, equip exam rooms, hire local Dominican workers, and collaborate with Caritas to ensure high-quality, culturally grounded care. In July 2023, the Dominican Ministry of Public Health certified the facility, providing a full-time physician, regular medication shipments, workforce training, and patient record systems.

Clinic History
During a research visit in 2015, community leaders in Angostura shared a long-held hope: they had already raised local funds for a medical clinic, and a political candidate had promised to complete the building if elected. Although that promise went unfulfilled and the partially built structure remained unused for years, the community’s vision for accessible healthcare never disappeared.
A few years later, ondawave joined local council members to help bring their original vision to life. Working from the community’s plans, we launched fundraising efforts in the United States to support remaining construction needs and to equip the future exam rooms. Local Dominican workers were hired to complete the building, ensuring that the investment strengthened both the clinic and the local economy. We also partnered with Caritas — an established Dominican nonprofit organization — to help ensure that the clinic would offer high-quality, culturally grounded care from the start.
In July 2023, the Dominican Ministry of Public Health officially recognized the facility as a Certified Health Clinic. This certification marked an important milestone: it meant that the Dominican government would join in sustaining the community’s efforts by providing a full-time physician, regular medication shipments, job training for local healthcare workers, and a documentation system for patient records.
What began as a community vision is now a fully recognized healthcare center – built, strengthened, and led by Angosturans, with ondawave as their partner walking alongside them. And the results have been incredible.
